ambo

„ambo“ is made up of two words ambivalent bodies.

This is how it looks like.

It is mounted on the ceiling with the volume body pointing towards the centre of the room. This contains a projector, cooling dust filter and a processor that is connected to a camera via a cable past the suspension system.

For the projector and the processor, a silent fanless cooling system was chosen that works according to the principle of thermodynamics.

hardware prototype: rapberry pi 5, compatible camera, wide lens, flex cable, heatsink, fan, acrylic, projector
software: python, raspberry pi os, nebula
model: aluminum 60x6x2000mm, pu foam, „poseidon“ dark blue ink, acrylic
As both components need to be connected and „ambo“ can be seen as a luminaire that is user-friendly to install and immediately ready for use, a discreet but also sculptural, organic variant was ultimately chosen.

Whereby the projector is in focus and the camera does not give the impression of monitoring.
This recognises people and transforms them into virtual skeletons.

These in turn are abstracted by the processor and projected onto the opposite wall in conjunction with the projector.
Small movements create big effects.
Large movements produce more subtle effects.

Because we all know that poor posture, e.g. when sitting in the office, has a bad effect on our health – general lack of movement and hardly any real use of our body.
„ambo“ intuitively creates the necessary variety in everyday situations – encourages unusual movements promotes mobility and body awareness.

„ambo“ is used as an example in corridors in all kinds of transfer rooms – rooms that are normally simply walked through and overlooked.

„ambo“ creates a new interactive experience in everyday spaces: a surface projected in front of the user and intelligent camera tracking technology create an interactive mirror that reflects the user’s movements in real time.
the special feature lies in the interpretation and distortion of the tracked movements: the smallest movements lead to impressive reactions from the projection, while larger movements trigger more subtle effects. this unique dynamic encourages you to become active, opens up a playing field for creative movements and at the same time promotes awareness of your own body perception and proprioception.
„ambo“ uses or complements the infrastructure provided for lighting, is easy to set up and ready for immediate use. the targeted use of „ambo“ in public corridors and passageways transforms these spaces into fascinating environments. instead of simply walking through, people are encouraged to become active and interact with the projection.
the project therefore not only contributes to increasing physical activity, but also creates an inviting atmosphere in otherwise often overlooked places. „ambo“ removes the boundaries between art, technology and everyday spaces and, at its best, leaves a lasting impact on the perception and use of these environments.
